Creating Lifelong Friendships While Enjoying Lifelong Learning
Many wonderful friendships have developed between classmates attending Leisure Learning classes over the years. Susie McKenzie and Sherri Harvey both enrolled in Fly Fishing in 2019. Though they didn’t previously know each other, they quickly bonded and have become forever friends. They both enrolled in Fly Fishing again in the summer of 2021 to further hone their skills.
After receiving information about the fall classes, both agreed to meet again in Taos
to enjoy another class together. This time they chose to take the Metal Arts class. They
decided, however, to meet up a few days early to fish with a guide from the Taos Fly
Shop and stayed a few days after class to catch a few more New Mexico trout.
Sherri Harvey shared her recent experience as a participant in the fall Metal Art class.
“What a pleasure it’s been to find the OSU Doel Reed Center in Taos. I’ve wanted to take a metal arts class for years and this one checked all the boxes. Lisa and Chris did a fabulous job with the plasma cutter and welding instructions. All of our questions were answered and we were all able to craft some amazing pieces. I have developed some lifelong friendships, honed my fly fishing skills and now have a new hobby in Metal Art. Many thanks to all the folks that make this program happen. I look forward to coming back year after year.”
