Doel Reed Annual Scholarship Fund

Each summer, the Doel Reed Center in Taos offers Oklahoma State University students a rare learning experience grounded in academic excellence and experiential learning in the unique multicultural setting of northern New Mexico.   

 

Small class sizes optimize individual, hands-on learning, allowing students to immerse themselves in their academic endeavors. A range of fields of study, including art, architecture, creative writing, history, hospitality, landscape architecture, and many more disciplines are offered in two-week intensive sessions that capitalize on this special academic experience.     

 

Many OSU students have said that scholarships are critical to their ability to participate in the unique academic classes offered at the DRC. Past student scholarship recipients have shared that returning to Stillwater after attending courses in Taos has given them a much deeper appreciation for their land-grant education and the Cowboy heritage.    

 

This fund supports tuition assistance along with room and board stipends for students attending academic courses at the DRC.   

Doel Reed Center Program Fund

The Program Fund supports all programming at the center, including:  

 

*Summer OSU credit classes 

*Summer and fall leisure learning classes 

*Virtual lectures in winter and spring  

*Smelser-Vallion Visiting Artist lectures and activities 

*Burke Visiting Scholar lectures and activities  

*And other activities related to programs at the DRC  

 

The use of this fund is diverse, as are the topics and people providing the program. The enrichment funds allow faculty and speakers to take advantage of local resources. These might include entrance fees to local Taos art museums or the Taos Pueblo, as well as honorariums for local Taos subject matter experts invited to speak to classes. The impact of these funds extends beyond the classroom experience and creates partnerships with the entire Taos community.  

Doel Reed Enhancement Fund

As the DRC approaches its 20th anniversary, it remains mindful of the responsibility to ensure proper maintenance and upkeep of the buildings and grounds that comprise the center.  The DRC provides classroom space for both academic and leisure learning classes offered each summer.     

 

While available space is insufficient to house students, academic and leisure learning instructors reside in one of the two residences during their classes. Additionally, Visiting Artists and Visiting Scholars, as well as Hargis Fellows often are housed at the center.  The DRC’s interior and exterior spaces, and the Doel Reed Studio, are used as instructional spaces and critical to delivering academic and leisure learning classes.   

Donations to this fund provide for the upkeep and improvement of the facilities and grounds.
