I Had No Idea!
“I had no idea that OSU has an educational facility in Taos, New Mexico. What purpose
does it serve?” That’s a question often asked when friends of Oklahoma State University
first hear about the OSU Doel Reed Center in Taos.
The property was gifted to the university by Martha Reed, daughter of Doel and Jane Reed. Mr. Reed, a prolific artist and printmaker, founded and was head of the Oklahoma A&M Art Department for over thirty years before retiring and moving to Taos in 1959.
Martha’s wishes were that the property be used in ways to honor her fathers legacy and for educational outreach.
The center is now an extension of Oklahoma State University’s land-grant mission offering educational opportunities to OSU students, alumni, friends and the Taos community.
Taos, known as a culturally rich community, is also the southwest center for the arts. The blending of the arts and the multiple cultures in the region offers unique and enriching educational opportunities for those visiting the OSU Doel Reed Center in Taos.
Mission
Building on the land-grant heritage of Oklahoma State University the OSU Doel Reed Center in Taos extends the reach of OSU by offering multidisciplinary programs in teaching, research and outreach focused on the arts and culture of the Southwest United States to students, alumni, friends and the communities of northern New Mexico.
