Virtual Lecture Series
Education is at the forefront of the mission of the OSU Doel Reed Center in Taos. It provides outstanding educational opportunities for OSU students in a unique learning environment that includes exposure to the arts and many cultures of the region. Likewise, educational programming is available to alumni and friends of Oklahoma State University at the Doel Reed Center in Taos.
During the pandemic, when in-person learning was curtailed, Dr. Carol Moder, director, organized several free one hour virtual lectures that proved to be phenomenally popular. These interactive Zoom sessions provided OSU alumni and friends with the opportunity to continue on a path of life-long learning while being unable to attend in-person classes in Taos. Dr. Moder invited regional scholars and artists from northern New Mexico to share their expertise on a variety of topics. These are several of the lectures that were presented:
Drawing Real and Imagined Landscapes- Liz Roth
New Mexico Magical Realism: Bless Me, Ultima- Ed Walkiewicz
Floral Exploration: Botanical Drawing at Home- Sara Schneckloth
Bear and Coyote: Stories of Leslie Marion- Brewster Fitz
Clay Beauty: The Legacy and Heritage of Pueblo Pottery- Bruce Bernstein
The Art of Aquatint- Jennifer Lynch
Southwest Archaeoastronomy- Martha Yates
Weaving: Spider Woman’s Gift to the Navajos- Charlotte Shroyer
Evolution of the New Mexico Devotional Arts 1980-2020- Gustavo Victor Goler
