My two weeks in Taos
Friday, January 29, 2021
As a junior Fashion Design student, I had the opportunity to study at the Doel Reed Center in Taos. It was a two week session of intense study that opened my eyes in so many ways. It wasn’t easy by any means. Our amazing instructor took us through a full semester of work in the short period of time we were there. We had lectures and of course design projects. But we also had the opportunity to visit with several local fashion design artist from the Taos area who taught us so much about incorporating cultural influence into our design thinking. Being exposed to the many cultures in Taos definitely influenced me and helped to confirm and reinforce my career choice. The two week educational experience at the OSU Doel Reed Center in Taos has been the highlight of my college education. It was an experience that couldn’t be duplicated on the Stillwater campus.
Although our time was limited, we were able to visit several museums and galleries and of course many boutiques featuring the designs of local fashion artists. It was an amazing experience, one that was made possible by a scholarship from an OSU donor. I will forever be grateful.
