Carol Ready is an Assistant Professor of Spanish and Linguistics in the Department of Languages and Literatures at Oklahoma State University. Her research interests include sociolinguistics, bi- and multilingualism, language contact, language policy, language acquisition, and pedagogy. Her current work focuses on the sociolinguistic aspects of Arabic and Spanish in Spain and Spanish and English in the United States. Carol Ready teaches Spanish language classes as well as classes about linguistics in Spanish and in English.
Dr. Ready received a PhD from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, and a Doctoral Degree in Cotutelle from the University of Granada, Granada, Spain.
Dr. Ready’s current work focuses on the sociolinguistic aspects of Arabic and Spanish in Spain and Spanish and English in the US. She will work with Dr. Schwarz to develop a course that examines how language reflects and shapes gender identities and gendered social roles in minority language communities, with a focus on the U.S. Southwest. Students will engage with theories of language and gender, bilingualism, and sociolinguistic identity while conducting field observations, interviews, and/or focus groups in Taos.
