Neil Gilbert, Assistant Professor of Integrative Biology, holds a PhD from the University
of Wisconsin: Madison.
He joined the faculty at OSU in 2024.While in residence, he plans to complement his ongoing big data research projects
with a pilot acoustic data collection campaign along an elevation gradient in the
Sangre de Cristo Mountains. This data would support a grant proposal he is developing
to fund research on latitudinal variation in species’ responses to light pollution.
Dr. Gilbert’s proposed course “Biodiversity Appreciation” will explore biodiversity
science and our place in the world. The course will be centered on field trips to
introduce students to the species and major habitats of northern New Mexico and discussions
of readings focused on how humans relate to nature.
